The Kirkgate Pend Gates, Linlithgow Burgh Halls.
The Kirkgate Pend Gates have been designed and created for Linlithgow Burgh Halls, a landmark building in the centre of the historic burgh of Linlithgow.  The building, dating back to the seventeenth century, has recently undergone major refurbishment to create a multi-purpose community based arts and heritage centre for West Lothian Council.
The Kirkgate Pend Gates define an access to the newly developed garden area and outdoor terrace of the Burgh Halls.  The design has been developed from a section of castellated carving above the fire places in the main hall.  With a three dimensional quality, the gates, when standing open, look as though they are receding into the opening of the pend, inviting the passerby through the pend and into the garden beyond.  The heavy sections adorning the gate have been forged and textured to add further interest to the gates, reflecting the character of the refurbished listed building.
