Hailes Quarry Park, Nature Detective Trail.
Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust (ELGT) have created a Learning and Discovery area within a woodland at the centre of Hailes Quarry Park, Edinburgh.  Ratho Byres Forge were commissioned to design and create an interpretation board and seven markers.  The markers had to depict the biodiversity of the woodland area, and be suitable to take a rubbing from, thus involving the community and raising an awareness of the ecosystem of the park.
The pictures on each of the markers reveal the wide variety of flora and fauna that can be found in and around the woodland area and the park.  Each image has been photo etched onto a zinc plate to give high and low areas suitable to create a rubbing.

ELGT have created a nature trail leaflet, which can be downloaded here.  The leaflet has seven magnifying lenses with a small clue to finding each post, on which to make your rubbing.  Don’t forget to take your crayons with you if you plan to visit the park to find the markers and try out the rubbings.
