Running Hares,  Hazel Leaves Sculptural Bench and  Eskbank Fungi submitted for GAGA Award.
The trio of sculptures commissioned by CALA Homes to enhance a housing development at Eskbank, near Edinburgh, have been submitted for the Galvanizing in Detail Award organised by the Galvanizers Association.
Running Hares, four supersize hares, grace the entrance to the development.  Hazel Leaves Sculptural Bench can be found on the Village Green and Eskbank Fungi is sited in the adjacent woodland.
Running Hares has been created from 3mm mild steel sheet heated, forged & formed then welded onto an armature.  Hazel Leaves Sculptural Bench is formed from 60mm thick steel plate, laser cut to shape.  Each leaf has been shaped under the press to give an illusion of movement.  The mushroom stems on Eskbank Fungi are hot forged from 50mm square mild steel with the caps formed from flat sheet, raised under the press to give the dome shape.
On completion, all three sculptures were galvanized.  Running Hares and the Hazel Leaves Sculptural Bench were acid etched, & spray painted.  Eskbank Fungi was acid etched leaving the mottled grey galvanize as the desired finish.
